Marlene’s sculpture workshops provide the opportunity for self-discovery, play and trusting our innate creativity. Using a technique developed over 15 years making her own masks, Marlene guides participants to explore shapes and images and create their own unique and powerful sculptures.

Sculpture Workshops:  Masks, figures, puppets and whimsical objects

• GROUP WORKSHOPS for adults and children: Sculpt a papier mâché Mask or Figure in 8 hours over 4 weeks (2 hour session each week). Or make a Rod Puppet in 16 hours over 8 weeks. Also provided at community centres, art organizations, health centres and for theatre groups. Groups available for home-schooled students.
• INDIVIDUAL MENTORING: Personal projects for interested individuals.
• CORPORATE PACKAGE: Creative art workshops diminish stress, enhance creative thinking and encourage team-building in the corporate environment. Contact Marlene to discuss the format that best suits your needs.

Some WORKSHOP Formats

PAPIER MACHE MASK-MAKING FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN (4 weeks)

• Two hours a week for 4 weeks (total 8 hours)
• Explore your creativity making an expressive mask out of durable papier mache. We will look at mask-making around the world, explore the effects of shape and colour, and build a mask over several weeks.
• All materials are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring recycled plastic bottles, fabric, string, wire or anything unique that can be added to the mask.

1 DAY MASK-MAKING WORKSHOP (2-3 hours)

• Let your imagination take over! Using a wide variety of colourful and evocative decorative objects,
  create a mixed media mask using a collage technique.
• All materials are provided.

PAPIER MACHE ROD PUPPETS (8 weeks)

• Two hours a week for 8 weeks (total 16 hours)
• Make a creative rod puppet out of durable papier mache, dowels and wire. We will explore how rod puppets are constructed,
  play with plasticine to develop the idea, build a papier mache puppet head and rod frame-work for the puppet.
• All materials are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring recycled plastic bottles, fabric, string, wire or
  anything unique that can be added to their puppet.
