Marlene's Bio

Marlene Pyykkö

Sculptor & Workshop Facilitator

Marlene has been sculpting for over 20 years, working in stone and papier mâché, making masks, puppets and whimsical objects. Her masks range in size from six inches to six feet in height and have been exhibited in galleries and other venues across Canada.

Marlene grew up in Montreal in a household filled with art supplies of every kind. Her father, an accomplished illustrator and craftsman, introduced her to water colours, inks, silk-screening, mosaics and woodworking. She went on to study photography and sculpture at local art schools and cultural anthropology at McGill University. Marlene's studies in visual arts and anthropology have lead her to explore how people experience, communicate and shape the significant aspects of their lives.

Travels in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Mexico introduced her to a variety of styles of living and of creating. Folk art, rock art and shamanic objects have held her fascination.

Marlene offers sculpture workshops as avenues for creative exploration, self-discovery and play. For more information on workshops or to view more artwork, please contact Marlene by email.
